Royal Enfield, the world’s oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production, showcased 125 years of pure motorcycling in Italy’s eternal city this weekend, partnering the iconic Rome Marathon to speak to those who see the road as a path to freedom and personal discovery.
Celebrating 125 years of pure motorcycling with the marathon’s 40,000 competitors, from 166 countries, the brand gave enthusiasts a glimpse into its journey from 1901. Ahead of the starters gun, 23 Royal Enfield motorcycles rode in formation through the ancient cobbled streets of the marathon route, passing the world renowned heritage sights, Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Piazza Del Popolo, Piazza Di Spagna and Piazza Navona enroute.
The Rome cavalcade was spearheaded by the eagerly anticipated Flying Flea C6 electric motorcycle, officially breaking cover for the first time on European streets outside testing, which glided effortlessly ahead of its stablemates in camouflage trim.
The Flying Flea takes the Pure Motorcycling philosophy into the electric age. Built by 200 engineers, with 45+ patents, combining nostalgic design elements with modern electric performance, Royal Enfield continues to embrace new technologies while staying true to its roots.
Flying Flea symbolises the brand’s bold step into the electric future, one that promises innovation and sustainability for City+ riders.
Honouring the brand’s legendary past, the Flying Flea C6 was flanked by a curated selection of Vintage and Classic machines, including Royal Enfield’s first motorised vehicle a Quadracycle from 1901, a 225cc Model 201 from 1921, a 700cc Meteor from 1953 and a Factory prepared competition specification 350cc Bullet Trails from 1957.
The backbone of the Royal Enfield X Rome Marathon partnership was the legion of 30 motorcycles to support the successful delivery of the event. Mobile support teams, stewards and mobile media units utilised the quick, nimble Guerrilla 450 roadster and Himalayan 450 with its rugged, spartan character perfectly suited to the varied road conditions of Rome’s marathon route.
Royal Enfield’s current range of accessible middleweight, 350 to 650cc, motorcycles were demonstrated by selected owners from the Rome branch of ‘Riders Club of Europe’ (RCE), with the full line-up of modern offerings represented.
The lucky riders arrived fresh from a 125th Anniversary RCE community ride out the previous day, Saturday, where RCE members marked the weekend’s celebrations with 125 Riders taking part in a 125km ride-out encompassing the ancient Cassia Road and lunch on Lake Bolsena, accompanied, by members of the Royal Enfield Management and Motorcycle Design teams.
Commenting on the weekend’s events in Rome, Italy Country Manager, Federico Valentini said “On Sunday morning, a fleet of our historic and modern motorcycles – spearheaded by the Flying Flea C6 electric motorcycle – symbolically led the way for the runners. Riding past Rome’s iconic landmarks served as our tribute to the city. Meanwhile, our space at the Expo Village at Circo Massimo became the beating heart of the event, where we connected with participants to share stories of travel and our enduring passion for two wheels.”
