With nearly 25 years of expertise in active airbag technology, Alpinestars launches Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA, the all-new autonomous Airbag System, now available in Europe and internationally, the System was introduced earlier this year in March, in the US market.
Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA is the latest addition to Alpinestars’ Tech-Air® lineup, which includes dedicated systems for street riding, commuting, track racing, off-road riding, and motocross.

Lightweight Construction and Ultra-Slim Profile
Weighing just 1,530g (3.3 pounds), the Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA is over 25% lighter than the Tech-Air® 5, making it the lightest Tech-Air® System to date. Its slim, minimalist design ensures the System fits discreetly under any protective motorcycling jacket, maximizing comfort without restricting movement.
Rapid Gas Inflator Replacement*
The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA can have its gas inflator easily replaced by the user after a deployment, up to six times before a full-service airbag replacement is required (as long as the airbag hasn’t been damaged during a crash event). This allows continued protection on the ride after a deployment.
*Not all Countries allow user handling of gas inflators.
Intelligent Crash Detection & Riding Modes
The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA features a new, advanced algorithm with three Riding Modes: OFF-ROAD, STREET, and RACE. Riders can easily switch between Riding Modes, even while wearing gloves, by pressing the integrated LED Display Button.
Bluetooth Connectivity & Tech-Air App
The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA features Bluetooth connectivity and an accompanying Tech-Air® App, allowing riders to use their phone to connect to the app to easily:
- Monitor System status, and battery life.
- Record rides and map routes via the MyRide feature.
- Consult the User Manual.
- Update System software when new software releases become available.
System Activation
The System is also extremely easy to use; just zip up the vest and close the magnetic flap, and you’re ready to ride. The LED Display will visually indicate the System’s operational status complemented by a haptic vibration alert to notify the rider that the System is armed.
Easy Charging & Long Battery Life
The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA includes a certified lithium-ion battery that provides 30 hours of riding time. A conveniently placed USB-C charging port on the LED Display allows for easy recharging.
Protective Performance Offering a Comfortable, and Adaptive Fit
Designed to meet the evolving demands of modern motorcycling safety, the lightweight ultra-slim profile of Tech-Air® 5 Plasma provides an “invisible under the jacket” feel, offering riders unrestricted movement and an exceptionally comfortable and adaptive fit.
The integrated Nucleon PLASMA back protector features an eco-friendly, impact-absorbing material designed to offer superior flexibility, breathability, and ventilation.
The latest evolution of the Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA wearable technology features a more compact and complete active electronic system that includes 6 sensors (2 tri-axial sensors, 1 tri-axial accelerometer, and 1 tri-axial gyroscope located on the main electronic control unit). The System leverages AI to accurately monitor when to deploy the airbag in the event of a crash.
The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA’s user-friendly design enables quick airbag removal for vest cleaning, and provides effortless reassembly of the System. Servicing key components, including gas inflator replacement, is also quick and easy.

- The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA System is Category II certified PPE under European Regulation (UE) 2016/425 and complies with UK legislation.
- Passive back protector: CE certified to EN1621-2:2014 Level 1 (Full Back).
- Inflatable protector: CE certified to EN 1621-4:2013 Level 1 (Full Back).
- Certified as a Class C undergarment per EN 17092-6:2020.
