Sometimes, you have a product that just makes you think ‘… why didn’t I get these sooner?’ And that product for me are these Weise Ion Textile Heated gloves. Having suffered riding through some -2 degrees conditions this winter, I find nothing worse than cold hands on a motorcycle. The wind chill feels like it is driving daggers down the tips of your fingers. When you finally pull over to warm up, the blood rushing back is even worse! When I was asked to review these, I admittedly was beyond grateful and could not wait to try them.
One of their major selling points for me is the battery powered aspect. I prefer a minimal ride set up and that includes not wanting to wire anything to my bike’s actual battery. These gloves come with 2200 mAh batteries that can be charged with the USB cable provided and there is a little pouch inside the wrist cuff of the glove that you tuck the battery into. I was concerned the battery would dig into your hand or feel noticeable but as long as you angle the battery the right way, it is very comfortable and not at all an issue. Weise claim a battery life up to 4 hours which for portable heated gloves, I think is great. I had no issues with the battery life when wearing these and I averaged a stop/start of 3 hours or so riding at most with these, jumping from the mid heat to the highest heat. Obviously the battery will drain quicker depending how warm you go.

There are three heat settings and can easily be adjusted on the fly thanks to a single button on the back of each glove. The button lights up in the colour of the heat setting you’ve chosen; blue, orange and red. At no point did I ever feel like the gloves were not holding their own, if anything, at times I had to turn the setting down to the mid heat setting because after a while the warmth was more than enough. The heat is really focused on the backs of your hands and the fingers, especially the fingertips. It used to be that when cold, all I could feel was how painful my hands were, but wearing these I suddenly realised how my legs would start to get cold, how my face would hurt and my toes would start to get numb, because my hands were so toasty they did not enter my mind anymore.
The gloves are comfortable thanks to a soft fleece inner lining. The two layer wrist cuffs, which can be a bit difficult to get over your leather jacket sleeve but once on, settle very nice and snug, forming a decent weatherproof seal. Made with a combination of textile and full-grain leather, dual layered, there are also KP1 certified knuckle armour and padding on the fingers, meaning the protection is there for you, just as much as the warmth. Under the outer shell is a breathable membrane that is windproof and waterproof, including a 200gsm Thinsulate™ liner over the back of the hand, and 100gsm Thinsulate™ on the palm.
Overall, these were a game changer for riding in the cold. I tested these in -2 degrees, 4 degrees with high winds and supposed wind chill of -14 degrees, and plenty of miserable wet conditions. They never let me down and completely overhauled how I view cold weather riding. Comfortable and warm, they meant I no longer dreaded venturing out with frost on the roads because I knew out of it all, my hands would be happy! My only issue? I wish they did smaller sizes. I tested the size small and being a female, with typically tiny hands, I had more room than needed but this is a common issue for me and their positives more than made up for it. These are now a staple in my riding gear.
