Fans of Paul Weller, aka The Modfather, will be shouting from the top at the rare chance to own a very special 1965 Lambretta once owned by one of the UK’s most famous, and influential, musicians.
H&H Classics is auctioning the 1965 Lambretta Li150 Special ‘Stanley Road’ scooter, estimated at £45,000-£55,000, on Wednesday 22nd July at its auction being held at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull.
If the celebrity connection to the former frontman of The Jam and The Style Council, and who has enjoyed a hugely successful solo career, wasn’t enough, then the scooter was painted by Kinetic Art in tribute to Weller’s album, Stanley Road, a landmark British album, with designs created by the celebrated artist, Peter Blake.
After Weller received it, the scooter was taken to Margate for promotional shots, among the most widely recognised celebrity photoshoots on a Lambretta, to promote the album.
Lucas Gomersall, specialist at H&H Classics, said: “There are special scooters, and then there are very, very special scooters, in a league of their own for desirability and collectability.
“We’re thrilled to be auctioning this amazing scooter once owned by Paul Weller, a musical genius and a name synonymous with scooters and the Mod revival.”
Weller had previously donated the Lambretta to a CancerBACUP benefit concert with a charity auction. His friend and musician, Ian Dury, who passed away in 2000 was an ardent supporter of the charity following his diagnosis of liver cancer. It was here that the scooter was signed by Peter Blake, drummer Steve White and The Modfather himself.
It has been mainly on static display since then with the vendor, apart from some early ride outs.
Lucas added: “What can you say, this is possibly the most famous ex-celebrity owned Lambretta existing and we’re expecting strong interest from Paul Weller fans, plus vintage scooter collectors and enthusiasts.”
The Lambretta is offered with several items of memorabilia including copies of Scootering magazine, a limited edition print of the original photoshoot in Margate with Paul Weller and a framed copy of the Stanley Road album.
The scoter is one of 328 auction lots which will be available to view in person at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, from 10am on Tuesday 21st July and from 9am on Wednesday 22nd July, while the sale then commences at 10am.
Anyone looking to bid on one of the lots can do so in person, online, by telephone or by leaving a commission bid, while for more details about any of the classic motorcycles or vintage scooters, visit www.handh.co.uk.
