Modern Classic Motorcycle News UK Market Watch – 8 September–5 October 2026
1. UK motorcycle market recovery continues
The MCIA reported on 7 September 2026 that the UK L-category market grew 17% year on year in August, taking the year-to-date increase to 15.7%. Adventure registrations rose 41.4% in August and 27.5% year to date, while Naked motorcycles increased 23.3% during the month and 15.6% year to date. The MCIA also reiterated the importance of the Government’s unresolved rider-licence review. MCIA
Why it matters: Adventure and naked bikes remain the strongest growth areas, supporting MCM News coverage of practical middleweights, roadsters and modern adventure machines.
2. BMW introduces the new F 450 R A2 naked bike
BMW Motorrad officially unveiled the F 450 R on 1 October 2026. It uses a 420cc parallel twin producing 48hp and 43Nm, weighs 175kg ready to ride, and includes three riding modes, ABS Pro, traction control, a 6.5-inch TFT display and optional Easy Ride Clutch technology. BMW has not yet published UK pricing or a confirmed UK delivery date. MCM News
Why it matters: The F 450 R gives BMW a serious new entrant in the increasingly important A2 roadster class, competing with the Honda CB500/650 range, CFMOTO 450NK and Triumph’s smaller-capacity models.
3. Triumph previews four new 2027 motorcycles
Triumph’s official “Go Further” page confirms four new 2027 models, with the full reveal scheduled for 6 October 2026. The manufacturer has not yet released model names, UK prices or specifications. MCM News
Why it matters: Triumph’s core modern-classic and adventure ranges are central to MCMN’s audience, so this is the most important developing story immediately ahead of the next briefing.
4. KTM confirms substantial 2027 790 Duke revisions
KTM’s official 2027 model information, published 2 September 2026, describes a significantly revised 790 Duke. Changes include revised rider ergonomics, more comfortable seat and passenger accommodation, adjustable WP Apex suspension, new WP brakes, revised LED lighting and Pirelli tyres. The Euro 5+ 799cc parallel twin remains rated at 105PS and 87Nm. UK price and arrival date remain unconfirmed. ktm.com
Why it matters: The 790 Duke sits directly in the competitive middleweight naked-bike sector alongside the Yamaha MT-07, Honda Hornet, CFMOTO 800NK and Triumph Trident/Trident 800.
5. Royal Enfield’s Guerrilla 450 receives a temporary UK finance push
Royal Enfield offered 0% APR representative finance throughout September 2026 on the Guerrilla 450 range, including the new Apex variant. The published UK prices were £4,850 for the base model and £4,999 for the Mid, with PCP payments from £49.99 per month under the stated terms. The Apex adds sportier ergonomics, revised riding modes, Vredestein tyres and updated bodywork.
Why it matters: The promotion has ended, but it shows how Royal Enfield is positioning the Guerrilla 450 against aggressively priced Chinese middleweights and the Honda CB500 family.
6. Zero reports strong UK growth for the LS1
A UK report published 24 September 2026, citing MCIA data, stated that Zero registrations rose 330% year on year to 142 units between January and August. The LS1 became the UK’s best-selling electric motorcycle in the sub-11kW category during August, while the wider electric two-wheeler market declined 10.3% over the first eight months. eMotorcyclist
Why it matters: It suggests Zero’s more accessible urban model may be finding customers even while the broader electric motorcycle market remains under pressure.
Editorial caution: Treat the registration breakdown as manufacturer-reported and attribute the figures to MCIA data.
